Silver Means
Silver Means (they/them) is a multimedia artist born in Taiwan and raised in Washington. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington in 2020, they moved back to the Olympic Peninsula and rediscovered the joy of working with their hands on local farms. This departure from city life led to a degree in welding and a newfound love affair with ceramics.
Inspiration for them comes largely from the natural world. They feel lucky to live in such a beautiful and unique environment; a temperate rainforest where the mountains meet the sea. This beauty is synthesized and emulated through a variety of creative mediums they’ve worked with, which include floral design, metal fabrication, printmaking, and fiber arts. They are enthralled by the process of making-success, failure, collaboration, and creativity.
Silver is especially interested in art that can be utilized in everyday rituals. Ceramics have a way of making the mundane feel a little more magical. This could look like the intimacy and connection one can have with a beloved cup or handmade dinnerware used to feed your community, every dish with a story.
